Mathias is a pediatrician and neonatologist trained in Heidelberg. He led Neonatology at the University Children’s Hospital in Bern from 2002 to 2018 and has worked as a senior consultant in Germany. Since 2023, he has been based at the Children’s Hospital Baden (KSB) in Switzerland.

His interests include neonatal pain, circulatory regulation, growth and development, ethics, and palliative care, alongside long-standing engagement in medical education and humanitarian neonatology programs worldwide.
